Family Herbalist Course

This 12 lesson distance learning course is suitable for:

The Family Herbalist Course is presented in written format, the lessons similar to chapters in a textbook. Each lesson of the course and chapter of the course includes a test, essays and projects to be completed by the student at his/her own pace. There is no time length to complete this course, but the average length of time takes from three to six months.

This course in professional studies provides:

  • Personalized answers and evaluations to lesson test essays and projects
  • In-depth knowledge on how to use herbs for effectively and efficiently treating yourself and others
  • In-depth knowledge of herbs and how to use them clinically and therapeutically.
  • In-depth knowledge of how to differentiate and treat disease patterns (rather than diagnosis and treat diseases) and to effectively and efficiently apply herbal remedies and formulas to those patterns

Many students after completing this course open clinics as professional herbal practitioners and their herbal expertise is often called upon by M.D.’s, D.C.’s and Acupuncturists. They also teach, publish papers and books, appear on radio shows, and create products, among other professional activities.

Each lesson includes a test and projects to be completed by the student at his/her own pace. The testing format consists of: true/false, multiple choice, matching and essay answer sections. In this way you are able to judge your own comprehension of the lesson material presented. The test questions are open-book and self-grade (answers are provided in the Private Student Forum file library). The only thing you need to e-mail to us are your essays, which should illustrate your overall comprehension of the lesson’s concepts and themes. This way, we monitor your progress and give feedback on any material that is not clear to you. These evaluations are then returned to the student via e-mail.

In addition to the above curriculum, several supplemental materials are available, including instructional tapes, articles, booklets, books and video tapes. These enhance the lessons further and help explain some of the more intricate theories of herbology on a deeper level.

Once you have completed the Professional Herbalist Course, you will take a final examination (also by correspondence). Successfully passing this will entitle you to a Certificate in Herbal Studies, demonstrating completion of studies. Although there is not a time limit to complete the course, the average length of time to complete all 36 Lessons takes students one and a half to two years.

The Professional Herbalist Course emphasizes a materia medica of over 500 herbs – Western, Chinese and Ayurvedic – along with diagnosis, treatment of specific ailments and advanced diagnosis techniques. Many students, after completing this course, open clinics as professional herbal practitioners and their herbal expertise is often called upon by M.D.’s, D.C.’s and Acupuncturists. They also teach, do radio shows and publish their writings along with create products and perform other professional activities.

Along with the course books students which contains helpful information, supplemental articles and the testing material. This course contain over 1100 pages. Each lesson includes a test with true/false, multiple choice, matching questions along with essays and projects to be completed by the student at his/her own pace. The essays and project reports are then sent to the school and our faculty grades and records all answers and gives personalized responses to the student. The evaluations and answers are then returned to the student.

Once you have completed the Professional Herbalist Course you take a final examination (also by correspondence) at no additional cost. Successfully passing this will entitle you to a Certificate in Herbal Studies, demonstrating completion of studies.
